On Saturday at Keeneland, the championship races will continue with the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile. A Grade 1 race carded at one mile on the turf, the event has drawn a field of twelve which includes the defending champion, Karakontie (JPN).
Karakontie (JPN) is poised to defend his crown in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) and try to become the sixth horse to win multiple editions of the prestigious race, joining elite runners Miesque, Lure, Da Hoss, Goldikova and Wise Dan.
On Saturday at Belmont Park, the track will host the $200,000 Futurity Stakes. Restricted to two-year-olds, the six-furlong contest is a Grade 2 event and has drawn a field of six colts.
On Sunday at Keeneland, the track will host the $250,000 Dixiana Bourbon Stakes. A Grade 3 event for two-year-olds scheduled to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf, the race has drawn a full field of fourteen with two additionally entered as also-eligible.
On Saturday at Belmont Park, the featured race is the $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic. The winner will earn an automatic spot in the starting gate for the Breeder’s Cup Turf and the Grade 1, mile and a half event has drawn a field of seven colts and geldings.
