On Saturday at Woodbine, the featured race is the 18th edition of the $125,000 South Ocean Stakes. Restricted to juvenile fillies sired by an Ontario-based stallion, the mile and a sixteenth race has drawn a field of eleven.
Shez a Masterpiece tops the field as the 2-1 morning line favorite for trainer Mark Casse. Purchased for $50,000 in May and now owned by Gary Barber, the two-year-old daughter of Mast Track broke her maiden in her third career start as the heavy favorite. She was second against restricted stakes company last time out at Woodbine. Patrick Husbands, aboard for her last two races, will remain in the irons from post nine.
Indiantown Sunrise going from a sprint to a route
Second choice at 3-1 on the morning line is Indiantown Sunrise for trainer Pat Parente. A bay daughter of Not Bourbon, she broke her maiden at first asking on the turf at Gulfstream in September and was second against stakes company at Woodbine last time out over their synthetic main track. She will be stretching out to two-turns for the first time and will have Luis Contreras aboard from post ten.
Mark Casse has loaded trio ready to go
Also in the field and a longshot at 20-1 on the morning line is Modus Operandi. A daughter of Marchfield, she is one of three fillies Mark Casse will saddle. After struggling against maiden company in her first three starts, she broke her maiden last time out with a drop in against $25,000 claiming competition. She will break from post eight under Gary Boulanger, in between stablemates Galina Point and Shez a Masterpiece.
