At Belmont Park, “Super Saturday” will kick off with the $400,000 Kelso Handicap. The Grade 2 event will be run at one mile on the main track and has drawn a field of seven.
Topping the field at morning line odds of 4-5 is Itsmyluckyday for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. The four-year-old son of Lawyer Ron was last seen winning the Woodward (G1) in a hard-fought stretch battle over Moreno. After being sidelined with a pelvic fracture last summer, Itsmyluckyday has won four of his six starts this year, all against stakes competition. He will break from the outside post under regular rider Paco Lopez.
Second choice at odds of 3-1 is Bradester who will be making his first start at Belmont Park for Eddie Kenneally. Corey Lanerie will be back in the irons after piloting the four-year-old son of Lion Heart to the first graded stakes win of his career in the Ack Ack (G3) last time out. The bay colt will break from post position five as he attempts to earn the sixth victory of his career.
Also in the field is Golden Ticket, a longshot at odds of 8-1. The five-year-old son of Speightstown, winner of the Travers (G1) in 2013, made his Belmont Park debut a winning one last time out in the Left Bank Stakes under Joel Rosario. Rosario will again be on board and the pair will break from post position two for trainer Ken McPeek. A six-time winner, Golden Ticket is going for his second win of the year.
