It’s expected to be a highly competitive race when a small field of five, including one Ontario-bred, break from the Aqueduct gate on Sunday for the $100,000 Ruthless Stakes for three-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the dirt. Four of the five runners are listed at 7-2 or lower in the morning line, with two entries from trainer Kieran McLuaghlin listed as first and second choice. Although carrying high weight of 122 pounds, Mamdooha has been made the 9-5 ML favorite, while stablemate Summertime Friend has been made second choice at 2-1.

Favorite has won a couple by open lengths

Only coming to the races in September, Mamdooha ran second in her career debut and then broke her maiden next time out in a $70,000 MSW event at Aqueduct, going six furlongs and winning by four lengths. She comes into this off a 4 1/2 length win in the $100,000 Gin Talking Stakes at Laurel Park four weeks ago. Summertime Friend, meanwhile, has only two races under her saddle, breaking her maiden at first asking, and then running third at the AOC level after a stumble at the start. She’ll try Lasix for the first time.

Ontario's Alpaca Fina has stakes experience
\n
Two others in with a shot include the Ontario-bred Alpaca Fina, the most experienced starter with five races to her credit, including starts in the Sharp Cat Stakes at Belmont, where she ran third, and the Busanda Stakes just eight days ago at Aqueduct, where she was fifth. She's listed here at 3-1. Rounding out the contenders at 7-2 is Vero Amore, who has reeled off two straight wins, the most recent coming at the allowance level at Parx Racing, where she fought back to win by a nose after giving up the lead at the top of the stretch.
