A strong field including a two-time past winner and a UK-bred finding his best success most recently on the Woodbine turf is expected to go to the post Sunday for the Grade I $1,000,000 Pattison Canadian International Stakes for three-year-olds and up going 1 1/2 miles on the EP Taylor Turf. The 76th running of the world famous event has drawn a field of 11 with Forte Dei Marmi (3-1 on the morning line) and Joshua Tree (6-1) two of the main contenders.

A seven-year-old gelding out of the UK mare Frangy, Forte Dei Marmi is now into his third season of racing in North America, with all of his best efforts coming on the Woodbine grass. Since running third in the International last year, he has tried Grade II company in the US with little success. Returning north of the border in mid-summer, he’s reeled off three straight wins, including most recently a win in the Grade I Northern Dancer Turf Stakes, run at the International distance.

Joshua Tree, meanwhile, has done all of his running overseas, except for three straight years that he’s shipped over for the International, winning in 2010, finishing second in 2011, and then winning again last year. Another in the field expected to attract some interest at the windows is Hyper (5-1) and Chad Brown trained Kentucky-bred, who last time out won the Grade II Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont, and who has been in the money in all seven starts this year. Making his North American debut is Seismos (10-1), a Group I winner in Germany.
