Two Grade I turf stakes featuring an international cast of runners are on tap for Woodbine on Sunday afternoon, beginning with the $500,000 EP Taylor Stakes for fillies and mares aged three-years-old and up going 1 1/4 miles. The race has drawn a field of 10, including five Irish-breds, one from Germany and one from France, as well as two home-growns in the form of Irish Mission and Moment of Majesty. All will carry 124 pounds except for the three-year-old filly Nancy O, who will carry 119.

Tannery always a contender in upper levels

\n

Tannery has been made the morning line favorite for the race at 2-1. A four-year-old Irish daughter of Dylan Thomas, she began her career across the pond, debuting stateside last fall when she ran third in the Grade I Garden City Stakes at Belmont Park. Since then she’s made an appearance in six graded-stakes races in the US, winning the Grade II Sheepshead Bay at Belmont last May, and most recently ran second to stable mate Laughing in the Grade I Flower Bowl Invitational. Joel Rosario will be in the tack.

Connections hoping Fitful Skies takes to travel

\n

Second choice at 3-1 is the French invader Minakshi, third behind Tannery in the Sheepshead, and the recent winner of the Grade II Canadian Stakes, where she got the lead a furlong out and won driving at 1 1/8 miles on the Woodbine Turf. She’s been in the money in four of five starts this year. Making her first start on this side of the Atlantic will be the Irish-bred Fitful Skies (15-1), who has been first or second in six of seven starts this year, with a win and a second-place finish in her last two Group 3 events in Germany.
