Woodbine kicks off their thoroughbred horse racing season on Saturday, April 20, 2013, with a full slate of ten races. The opening day card is highlighted by the first stakes race of the new season as the $150,000 Star Shoot for 3-year-old fillies will go six furlongs on the polytrack. There are 133 race days on the 2013 Woodbine calendar, highlighted by the 153rd running of the Queen’s Plate on July 7, 2013. The Canadian hotbed of racing is back and we love it!\n
Top jockeys Contreras and Husbands return
\nIt’s expected that all of the top names from last year will be back in action for this season’s Woodbine meet. Including among those are last year’s leading jockey, Luis Contreras, whose mounts visited the winner’s circle 195 times in 2012. Contreras is scheduled to ride an amazing seven times on opening day. Other familiar faces returning to the Woodbine jockey room for 2013 include seven time Sovereign Award winner Patrick Husbands, and Emma-Jayne Wilson, the only female jockey to capture the Queens’ Plate. We can feel the mounting excitement.\n
Woodbine 2013 racing schedule packed with action
\nFor horseplayers, Woodbine offers a $100,000 guaranteed early Pick-4 on all weekend races, and 20 cent bet minimums on Tricator, Pick-3, Pick-4 and Supafecta wagers.
